Sovereignty and Trouble

On Erev Rosh Hashanah, Scott looks at the two things the shofar announces, God's sovereignty and coming trouble, and asks what they mean for how we measure success.

The Bible never once calls this day Rosh Hashanah. Leviticus gives it barely a sentence, a memorial of blowing, and the tradition we’ve received hears two things in that ram’s horn: a King on His throne, and a watchman on the wall warning that danger is near. Scott set the two side by side on Erev Rosh Hashanah, though the last time he did that here, someone stormed out.

If a sovereign God allows every trouble that reaches your life, how would you ever know you were succeeding?
